Secular Wedding Ceremony At Sand Rock Farm
Secular Wedding Ceremony at Sand Rock Farm
September is peak wedding season in Santa Cruz County, and for good reason! Known as our Indian Summer, it is one of the warmest months of the year. On this particular September day I got to team up with the warm and wonderful Eileen Lacey of E Events Co., and the talented Bay Area photographer Kate Harrison of Kate Harrison Photography, at the Historic Sand Rock Farm Bed & Breakfast for Adam and Amanda’s secular wedding ceremony. (Sand Rock Farm is a bit of a hidden gem, and one of my personal favorite local venues.)
Initially Adam and Amanda decided to elope. An impulse born out of their desire to stay connected to themselves and each other through this wedding threshold, and not get lost in trends and traditions that might muddle what they wanted from the experience. Ultimately though, they couldn’t imagine a wedding that didn’t included their friends and families, so they set out to find local wedding vendors who would honor and uphold their vision. They hired me to write an original, secular, love-focused wedding ceremony that captured their vision, values and relationship.
Adam and Amanda were fully present for the entire ceremony. A rare and wondrous thing! Their embodied presence brought a beautiful energy to the ceremony, so that even though it was a secular ceremony, with no mention of religion or God, it had a numinous quality to it. And I have no doubt that the incredible redwood behind us contributed to the magic of their ceremony.
