Big Sur: The Ultimate Destination Elopement Spot
Big Sur:
The Ultimate Destination Elopement Spot
With Covid-19 shitting all over everybody's wedding plans, the number of inquiries I'm getting for destination elopements right now, particularly in Big Sur, is off the charts! People are traveling from near and far to get married in a place that has been described as “the greatest meeting of land and water known to man.” So just in case you were wondering… eloping in Big Sur is not a consolation prize, it is the prize!
Some of my favorite Big Sur ceremony venues include Glen Oaks Big Sur, Ventana Big Sur, Post Ranch Inn, Point 16, Paion, Wind and Sea, Henry Miller Library, and Loma Vista Gardens. Big Sur venues and accommodations include everything from redwood rustic to full on fancy, so the choice is yours - your vibe, your vision, and your budget. Big Sur also has a wonderful diversity of landscapes, as you can see from the photos pictured in this post.
Some of my favorite elopement photographers include Melissa Ergo photography, Evangeline Lane, Savannah Hayes and Paige Nelson Photography. Each one of them brings something unique to the table, so you can’t go wrong with any of them! Plus, they’re all women entrepreneurs and small, local business owners.
I highly encourage you check out Melissa Ergo’s blog entitled “Where and How to Elope in Big Sur.” It’s a free comprehensive guide with location and vendor recommendations. (You’re welcome!) Also check out Melissa’s photo blog about an epic, foggy, dramatic Big Sur elopement we did together this fall with tons of amazing photos. (The photo below is from that very elopement.)
Despite all the Covid related wedding cancelations and postponements, 2020 hasn’t been all bad. After 250 years the Esselen Tribe finally regained a piece of their ancestral land! This is a huge win, and hopefully just the beginning of land reparations and repair! You can read more about it here. I love Big Sur with a passion, and am very grateful that I get to officiate wedding ceremonies and elopements on sacred Esselen land.
